Monitor wont display more then Macbook Pro...

The monitor is capable of 1920x1080 but the macbook only goes up to 1440x900. The monitor will only display 1440x900, because of the macbooks limits. Is there any way for the monitor to display full 1920x1080? Thanks.

Every Macbook since the first models were released in 2006 are capable of displaying up to 1920 x 1200 on an external monitor (newer models can even display larger/bigger resolutions).

The answer is you're either having connection/cabling issues...or you're not setting your Display preferences properly (within System Preferences).

System Preferences - Displays - change the resolution for the external.

I changed the resolution for the external, and it tells me "Usable resolution is 1440x900". I do have them on the "mirror displays" option. When I dont have that clicked I only get the mac background on the monitor.

This is the problem...if you have "mirroring" on...then you can only "Mirror" the Macbooks display on the external monitor. You want to be in "extended desktop" or "dual-display" mode.

Just so we know...what OS version are you using?

I think that you're changing direction a bit here. You started this thread saying that you couldn't get your external monitor to display a higher resolution (1920 x 1080) than your Macbook's display (1440 x 900).

Now you're talking about a "TV"! This is a different situation. If you want the TV to show what the computer shows...then that's "mirroring" mode. If the maximum resolution on your Macbook is 1440 x 900...then that's the highest resolution you will be able to "mirror" on your TV.

It's not a TV sorry. I just use it as a TV. It is an external monitor.

Same answer applies. If you're trying to "mirror" the same thing on the external display as your Macbooks display...you can only "mirror" exactly what is on your Macbooks display...this includes the exact same resolution. This is what "mirroring" means.

If you were talking about using "extended desktop mode"...then there would not be a problem displaying a 1920 x 1080 resolution on that external display. But when you're talking about "mirroring mode" you can only mirror what is on the Macbook display.

Yes. Use clamshell mode. See this LINK.

Your MacBook already supports that resolution. You do not need a driver nor is there one. The only way you're going to get that external monitor to display at its native resolution is to use clamshell mode - in other words, use it as your primary display. Did you read the link I gave you?

I think that my confusion in this thread was that the OP wanted to mirror what was on their Macbooks display...while still being able to see the Macbooks display. Versus being able to use the external display as the primary (and only display) such as in Clamshell mode.
