hard drive not being recognized

I have just received a hand me down ibook g4 and am installing leopard but when the destination volume window pops up there is no option. when i go to disk utility it is not showing the hard drive. do i need to reformat?? i am at a total loss....

Could be a dead drive, or just a conector has come out.

What model iBook is that one, if you can find that one out - it should be a P ATA drive - should be very inexpensive to buy a replacement

it is a ibook g4 14inch...

seems it is connected correctly. how would i test to see if dead?
