I think my issue may be related to removing a USB thumbdrive without ejecting. Since doing so my system won't shut down or restart without using the power button. The screen fades to gray and they a Block of text appears in multiple languages telling me to hold down the power button until it shuts down. I've tried Utility disc and it finds no errors on the drive. I've tried the reset of the power by removing the plug and holding down the power button. Any other ideas?

Did you check the disk permissions? It could very well be that permissions are causing you this issue.

This is a kernel panic. It's almost always hardware, and often RAM, related. You may want to stop by the Apple Store and have them take a look.

I have run Disk utility from the Applications folder. I have run repair disk and verify disk and they say everything's fine. What is the difference between the utility installed on the HD and the one on the install DVD?

There is a difference between verifying/repairing the disk and verifying/repairing the permissions. If you've only checked the disk, I suggest you verify and repair the permissions as well. Although it can be faulty hardware that causes kernel panics, problems with permissions can as well.
