USB icon removed from desktop

I have an IMAC running OSX 10.5 and the usb drive icon is removed from the desktop once I connect a network cable.

Can someone help me

Too many...
Try this: Go to the desktop. Click on the preference button on the Finder menu. Then, check to see if you have any of the boxes selected that allows them to pop up on the desktop once connected.
