You can put the hard drive in an external enclosure and then connect the enclosure to your MBP and get the data off that way. You can also get a universal HD adapter and plug it into that then plug in via usb to get the data off.

If it truly is just the screen that was damaged, you can find an external display to plug in, or use FireWire Target Disk mode
