Hi, new mac user here, but enjoying learning!!!

Is there a way of de-selecting the sound, and having a silent boot up when switching on my MacBook pro.
I've searched the forum and the mac on board help files but can't find the answer. Can you help please?

Cheers..........Brian

The only way I know is if the sound is muted when the machine is closed down.

I notice the sound follows my last setting. If I have the sound off when I shut down my Mac will boot up silently also. But - I don't know if there's an actual setting to turn it off permanently.

Oops - beat me to it

I don't think there is a way to do this besides muting your computer before putting it to sleep BUT you can check the sound settings in system preferences (I would check for you but I am not currently on a mac).

Google it...I have a program that silences it permanently ( unless changed back ). I do not know the name off hand...not at the computer. Haven't heard the chime in a year now....

Considering you only have to restart your MacBook, what, once a month for security updates, is it really worth the trouble?

I have used the startup sound application from Arcana for a year now and it works great...

The startupSound.prefPane is very useful.
