printer communication problems

Hi all ,FIrst attempt at a thread so go easy on me.
my Imac has stopped communicating with my printers telling me it is a usb communication problem,my macbook pro prints using the same usb leads ok. I've downloaded the drivers again and have even gone back in time machine to when it was printing to no avail,any ideas..printers are hp c4680 and lexmark x4550.thanks j.

The USB communication problem between the iMac and printers may not be related to the cables but to the ports themselves. Have you tested the USB ports to make sure they're working OK?

thanks for your reply, however I eventually cycled the power and the fault cleared.
