Hi All,

This is my first time posting so please be gentle. Here's the situation:

I reinstalled Mac OSX 10.4.11 over my old OSX 10.4.11 (because it was getting all kinds of error reports - likely due to an old and useless partition) today, and had thought I'd backed up all my important files on my external HD, but of course I forgot the one containing all my school work. I'm wondering if there is any way that I can salvage those files/data even though I've already reinstalled the operating system?

I've done a bit of searching so far and though I realize this is probably hopeless I would really appreciate any ideas on retrieving data that's been overwritten.

Thanks all

Sorry no. You've already overwritten the drive and whatever data there was on it by reinstalling. The only possible way that data could be retrieved is by sending the drive to a data recovery specialist. Those places are very expensive - probably much more than you would want to pay.

You may be able to recover some data, how much is the question.

Go to Amazon.com and search for a Product named "DataRescue III". I have version II and it works WONDERS for recovering data. It's at least $99, maybe more now, but it will at least let you see what is available to recover. It's also a good investment for those times when drives die without notice.

Thanks, I got DR 3 and it's managed to recover almost everything. The one thing I can't seem to pull of my HD with it is .odt files, so if you've had any experience/have any advice on that I'd appreciate hearing it.
