Have you opened up Disk Utility and formatted the drive?

Refuses to work. What does that mean exactly.
How do you have the drive formatted - FAT32 or NTFS?

Disk Utility is in the Applications - Utilities folder.
Does Disk Utility see the drive?
What version of OS X are you using?
Does that drive have an external power adapter and are you using it?

What's not in there?

You've trashed Disk Utility and no longer have that app, or Disk Utility does not see the drive?

Are you plugging it straight into your computer or going through a hub?
Tried a different USB port?
Did it come with a separate power cable and have you tried it?
Have you been to Freecom's site and looked for their troubleshooting tips?

the app is not in my folder..
It's going straight into my 'laptop'.
Yep
It doesn't have a power cable.. just USB.
Yep, same answers, can I get the app 'disk utitlitie' from a site? Or do I need to reinstall whole my laptop again?

You'll need to either reinstall the OS or try Pacifist to see if it can install only that app from your original OS X disc.

Have you tried this HD on another machine to verify it's working?
