Having a funky problem. I have an iBook (a1133) I have a generic external HDD, utilizing the apple boot scheme (not MBR or GUID)

I have OSX 10.3.9 3 cd set.
I have OSX 10.4.5 retail DVD (single layer)
I have OSX 10.5.6 DVD (dual layer)

I can of course install the 10.3.9 and 10.4.5, but not the DL DVD (not supported by the MATSHITACD-RW CW-8124 that comes with the iBook does not support DL DVDs.

I was able to use disk utility to "restore" CD1 to a partition on the USB drive, and it appeared in the startup disk list. I tried the same with the 10.4.5 retail disk, and it does not show up in the startup disk list.

Any ideas or known versions of 10.5 that will work when restored from the disc to an external usb? I will be at university on Thursday, so I can try the restore using one of their machines.
