How to run MySQL Databases off Mac?

How would i go abouts running a MySQL DB off my Mac?

I have PHP already, and am in the process of trying to learn the two.

Did you manage to find the file to download from that link? There are seperate versions for the major OS X revisions, if you can just get that then it will practically install itself.

yea, i installed the package for OS x 10.3, then when i go to sys pref, MySQL...and i try to Start SQL server. Nothing happens. It loads for a bit, and still shows that the sql server isnt running.

Have you tried restarting?

Go to terminal and type /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin, see if it takes you into SQL options

Yes it takes me into the options. Ive restarted and still same thing with the MySQL pane.

In terminal try: sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM/MySQLCOM start

If you can go: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql in the terminal and you get to the sql command line, then it is running.

Alright, i did the command line to start it. It says starting server, then in the MySQL pane its still stopped.

Then when i try to access the second command, i get
Error 2002.Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (61)

I don't know what to tell ya, it pretty much just worked for me, I didn't use the MySQL pane though

what about in 10.4, php is pre-installed right.

i want to get mysql for 10.4 on the site it is only for 10.3
