I have iMacs 24 and 27, and recently both became clogged with content etc.
The former has the 500 GB drive and the latter 1TB.
I have successfully cleared the 27" but am having deleting copied content on the 24.
The Trash seems set up DIFFERENTLY so that it takes absolutely ages to delete stuff.
It hasn't always been like this, and wondered if anyone could tell me how to get it to delete stuff quicker ?

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
It sounds like you have secure empty trash selected.
Go to finder in the menu bar>preferences>advanced>and make sure "empty trash securely" is unchecked.

6string nailed what my first guess is too, follow his advice and it should do the trick.
