Hi guys,

I'm new to Macs and I'd like to initialize or format my hard drive. I'd like to have it like the day I took it out of the box!

I've read on how to do it but I'm still a little unclear.

I have a Macbook with OS 10.4.11 Tiger and I have my two discs.

Is it as simple as inserting disc 1, rebooting the laptop and holding down c?

Is there anything else I should know? Any tips or tricks?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
-Boot from the install disc holding C while booting.
-Select language and click continue.
-Select utilities>disk utility in the menu bar (will take a few seconds to show up)
-Select the HD at the top of the list on the left.
-Click erase tab.
-Format Mac Os Extended (Journaled).
-Name Macintosh HD.
-Click erase.
-Quit disk utility, and continue with installation.

If you want it to start with the movie on the next restart like it did when it came out of the box, add these steps to the above:

After the movie plays, and goes to the screen where you have to input information user information, don't enter user information, and just click Apple key (command) and Q.
A box will pop up for you to select shutdown.

On the next restart, the setup assistant will come up with the welcome movie, followed by the registration screen for the new user to input their details.

Question about HD space

I also have another question.

I've just initialized the Macintosh HD with the 7 pass option. The Mac I'm working on has a 55.6GB HD and the OS needed 15GB dropping me down to 37.69GB after a minor update.

I just want to make sure this is normal!
