How can I find out what application is accessing the internet? I can see a big spike on the data received in the network tab, but can't figure out what application is causing it. Thanks

How often does this happen? Like once a week? If so, it could just be software update checking for updates. You can disable this by going into software updates and un-checking the little box.

The next time it happens you could open Terminal and paste in this code bit. It will list all applications using the internet.
Code:
lsof -P -i -n | cut -f 1 -d " " | uniq

McDude, you're right, it was the automatic updates, thanks.
McYukon, thanks for the Terminal code. I will definitely try it next time I suspect an unknown application accessing the net.
