When I used to drag and drop text from Word v.X onto Finder (desktop or window), I got a mac .textClipping file of that text - just the same thing I get dropping text from Safari or TextEdit or Mail or etc.

When doing this from Word 2008, I get a picture clipping instead, which quite frankly seems useless. It certainly doesn't help in trying to easily extract text from Word.

I have two questions I'm hoping someone here can answer:

a) is there a workaround for this problem for Word 2008?

b) does Word 2011 have the same problem?

Looks like Word is attaching the wrong extension.

I tried it in Word 2011 and got a .pictClipping file, but opening it shows "Clipping contents: rich text," and it does work as a regular clipping when you drag it back into an editor

Wow, and all this time I've been assuming it was completely broken. And all it is is a naming issue? Boy!

Thanks Technologist.

Too bad it is still this way in 2011, but at least now I know... I wonder how many years it will take Microsoft to fix it ;D
