Blu-Ray Writer For iMac

Hi everyone, this is my first post so first of all I would like to say hello to all the fellow Applers out there!

Basically I have a portable hard drive with a few blu-rays on, and I would like to burn them to blu-Ray disc. So my question is, are there any affordable Blu-Ray writers available for my iMac? The computer was only purchased around 6 months ago so it's quite a new model (27inch beauty).

Because if I can find one, i'll purchase a player so I can watch all the brilliant quality films on my 42" HDTV.

Let me be blunt: it would be cheaper and faster for you to order the Blu-Ray films legitimately from, say, DeepDiscountDVD.com or someplace than it will be to go through what you're going to need to do to burn (probably illegal) Blu-Ray movie DVDs on a Mac.

I'm not saying that because I'm some goody-two-shoes, I'm saying it because life is short and hassles are a bummer. Don't waste time and money, just buy the discs and enjoy them.

All I would like to know is if there are any Blu-Ray writers available for Mac...?

Like chas said, go buy the B-R movies you want.

external B-R burner: minimum $200 and up to $500
Toast 10 Titanium Pro: $130-$150 depending on whether you catch it on sale or not
A single BD-R dual layer blank disk: $13-$15; as cheap as $10-$11 each after freight if you buy them in 10 packs
Time to download (pirate) your B-R movies and burn them to disc: 3-6 hours each (or more)

My HD-DVD / B-R collection is already hitting the 200 range. My average cost is under $15 each. That is, I'm buying the real thing for the same price you're going to pay just to get the blank discs. Practically all of mine have come from Amazon.

To literally answer your question, however, yes there are Blu-Ray writers that are hardware-compatible with Macs (well, Mac Pros anyway).

As you'll see on that page, it is entirely possible to use a Blu-Ray drive in a Mac for data storage, and (with the help of some $1000-plus software) author Blu-Ray movies. You cannot play back BRmovies, however, there's no support for that whatsoever on the Mac OS.
