Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading the Ram on my MBP 13" 2010 unibody 2.4ghz, 4GB Ram model to 8GB RAM.

I use it mainly for word processing, itunes, safari (ie nothing heavy like photoshop or adobe etc).

Would it be worth the upgrade? Would i notice a difference for what I use it for?

Thanks

Probably not. For light use like what you're describing, 2GB should be more than enough.

To know for sure, open all of your most commonly used applications. Then, open up Activity Monitor from Applications => Utilities. Click the System Memory tab. If the pie chart shows lots of "green", you have no need for a memory upgrade.

Thanks guys. Also, thanks CWA, was looking for activity monitor, couldn't remember the name of it! My apparent 4GB MBP only shows 3.75GB where that red arrow points to? Is this normal?

I have 1.35GB free with Mail, Safari, iTunes, MS Word, Activity Monitor and Virtual DJ open.

Seems ok but what about the 3.75GB RAM when it should be 4GB?

Thanks

It's probably your video card using part of your memory. This is why not all of it is shown.

8GB is a waste if you're not running PS, Illy, VM, etc. Your 4GB will be fine, even if you want to start using PS etc.

The best upgrade you probably could do would be getting a SSD. That's the most noticeable upgrade you can do.
