My brothers MAC seems to have given up and the mouse does not seem to do much and a new one still same results.

Managed to remove the hard drive !! lol

Anyway I have hard drive out and placed in a hard drive caddy for my pc and guess what it did not work on the pc. Did not initialise it or change any drive settings at all.

Is there a way to get back his files ?

Would an external hard drive unit I placed the hard drive in work on another MAC ?

Any suggestions.

MAC is/was OS 10 i think
Hard drive is a seagate 60 gig ATA V

Windows doesn't recognize it because the filesystem used (HFS/HFS+) is not supported by Windows. I've never used it myself but you may want to look into MacDrive to read the disk.

As long as the disk isn't damaged, you should be able to read it with no problems on another Mac.

You can try MacDrive Mediafour which is a pay software to read the HFS filesystem that Mac OS X uses for it's partitions..a free trial of the software is available..

The other alternative is to grab the latest Live CD of Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution. Boot the CD on your PC and once Linux is running you can access the Mac OS X HD and copy the files out to some other media (Flash drive)..
