Possible to activate iPhone 3G without a sim card?

I have an old iPhone 3G and want to install iOS 4.1 on it. iTunes keeps telling me that there is no sim card installed. Well no duh!

How can I get around this error message and put files onto the iPhone?

Your going to have to get a At&t sim card, Even if it's broken and deactivated as long as it. As long iTunes recognizes it your good to go.

Another way to do it will be to put the phone into recovery mode look here on how to do this!
