Your iMac is listed as a late 2006 model so yes, that drive you linked to should work. It's SATA II (which is backward compatible with SATA) and 3.5". I have not heard of an overheating problem with placing large drives in an iMac. You may be thinking of the problem of using larger than recommended drives in Apple notebook computers.

Note that this SATA II drive is of the "green" type. Low energy consumption generally means slower performance. Also note the drive is recommended for external use.

Be aware that it does sometimes happen the SATA II drive may not be compatible with SATA. To overcome this use jumpers to 'throttle back' the speed from 3GB/s to 1.5GB/s.

Suggest looking for a SATA HDD of that size and not a low energy model. As a rule of thumb the SATA model will be cheaper than SATA II which your iMac cannot access:-
