I have a dillema. My Macbook Pro has a broken LCD screen and i know the apple protection plan won't cover the damages. Sadly, I also know repairing it through Apple will cost more the computer's probably worth ($600-$700).

So, my best option is to get the LCD screen replaced by a 3rd party. I did a Google search and there are a ton of companies that offer a mail away repair service. But I'm still not sure what I'm getting into here.

Question:

Does anyone know a good, reputable company that I can trust sending my laptop to?

Also, is it worth the time and energy to buy the parts and attempt a DIY repair?

If all you need is the display panel...depending on your exact MBP model...the price for a new one can start around $200. You might be able to find something used cheaper on e-Bay. Then you have to be capable, confident, and have the tools to do the DIY repair.

I'm in New Hampshire, about an hour from Boston. I just want to know if these companies that I get when I google 'macbook repair' are trustworthy companies.

First thing to do is check to see if they're an authorized Apple reseller that also does repairs. Next, check the BBB to see if there is a history of complaints or poor service.

Stay away from computer repair shops which are not authorized by Apple. Granted, you can probably get the job done well enough from a repair shop that is not authorized, but why take chances?
