Snow Leopard (10.6) only works on Intel based Mac's. Leopard (10.5.x) supports PPC as well as Intel based Mac's..

Since there really is not an iMac Power Mac, what CPU is in your machine? Power PC G4, G5 Or Intel?

Some of the:

- iMac's have a Model ID of "Powermac"
- some of the iBooks have a "Powerbook ID"
- early Mac-mini's have a "Powermac ID"
- eMac's also have a "Powermac" Model ID

...probably other examples as well. I know...it's VERY confusing.:( I was made aware of these "anomalies" a couple months ago by another member.:)

So if the OP is correct...that they have an iMac with a Model ID of "Powermac 6,3"...it's probably some sort of G4 iMac model. Which in this case...no you cannot upgrade to Mac OS 10.6 because your computer does not have an Intel cpu (it has a G4 cpu).

Yes, a 1.25Ghz G4 will run 10.5 quite well. You can upgrade it to 10.5.8 after it's installed. I am running 10.5.8 on a 1.25Ghz G4 Mac Mini and it runs just fine. How much RAM (Memory) is in your iMac G4?

Also be sure the 10.5 you purchase is a full retail black DVD and not a Gray Model Specific DVD.

Nick, I just glanced at the iMac Powermac and at first my eyes did not see that last part so I thought the OP was putting the two names together. :D

Also thanks Tech for that info.

Not an uncommon occurrence as you very well know!:) I just replied to a BST thread a little while ago where the OP mixed up "Macbook & G4".;)
