Hi all (1st post)
After 20 years,Im finally leaving the PC and coming over to the Mac camp.
But I cant decide which Imac model to go for.
I have a small home office (6 sq metres) and so my head says get the 21".
But the 27" keeps knocking on my door :(.
Im going to be using the machine for work (spreadshheets etc),music and movie downloads and surfing the net.But..
I used to be an avid gamer (1st person shooters)and maybe would like to get back amongst it (occasionally)!
I had an original budget of £1k but its going on a credit card and whats another few hundred pounds between friends..
Any feedback would be fantastic
Thanks

The screen size is completely a personal preference. If you can get to a place to look at them in person to help you decide, I'd recommend that.

Get what makes you happy!:) If you have the money (credit card)...then get what you really want (a 27" iMac).

If you get the 21" Mac...you will never be 100% satisfied...since it sounds like you really want the 27". There's nothing like a great big display...it's what you look at all the time.

I'm guessing that you haven't considered it...but check out the refurbished section of the Apple online store. You may actually be able to get a refurbished 27" iMac for only a little bit more than a brand new 21" iMac.:)

Good luck,

- Nick

p.s. If you're in the UK...I just checked the Apple UK store. For £999 you can get a new 21" iMac...or for £1169 you can get this 27" refurbished iMac:

Thanks for your replies.
The Refurbished iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i5 processor at £1399 (on the Apple site)seems like a bargain.
Has anyone had any experience with the refurbs?
If it is as good as new then I think i may go for it (if still there!!)

Tons of threads here on that subject...I can't remember seeing a negative one.:)

Hi
There are 2 refurbed iMacs priced at £1399.Which one do i choose?

iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i5 with ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics with 1GB memory
or
iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB memory

So the i5 processor with 5750 graphics or the i7 with the 4850?
I would like to do a little gaming but not loads.
Imloking to buy this morning so cheers for the advice

id go wit hthe i5 and 5750.

You will never be able to upgrade either the processor or the GFX card but and i7 is a bit overkill just now, i5 will do you fine and the 5750 will allow you to play most FPS games at playable frame rates. I think the 5750 uses GDDR5 and the 4850 only uses GDDR3.
