file system check

is the file system check something i should be running consistently? I read on a site that i should do it at least once a month, and i read on another that i shouldnt do it at all. what exactly is it and can it do more bad than good if i dont need it?

If Apple wanted you to run fsck, they would have made a shiny button on the dock to do it for you.

Ergo, they don't think you need to run it. And they're right.

CAN you run if it you want to? Certainly. That's why Apple included it on the machine in the first place (actually, they didn't have much choice, but that's another story).
