• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Codec installation problems

I bought Quicktime Pro to convert avi files so that they are playable on my iPod. I converted it but there was no audio when playing on iPod or iTunes.

Downloaded AC3 and A52 but wasn't able to install them. When I tried 2 install AC3, a text edit file full of junk came up.
With A52, it told me to move two files into a couple folders to start installation, I did and nothing happened. I then tried converting another avi and no sound again.

You go no where to use Perian. If it's installed it works when needed. You can be sure it's installed by opening System Preferences and look at the very bottom. You should see Perian there and can check it's settings.
