Well MacTracker tells me it's 16GB, and I'm liable to believe that program. :)

even if apple say only 8GB?

If someone at Apple told you this...they gave you bad information. All mid-2010 iMac's have a maximum ram limit of 16gig.

You can also go to this Apple webpage:

iMac - Buy iMac desktop computers - Apple Store (U.S.)

Click on "Tech Specs" (right side of the page)...and you'll see that it clearly says that all the current iMacs (mid-2010 models) support 16 gig of ram.

Hope this helps,

now i 100% agree and thats what i believed

HOWEVER

he said

1) on the site you can see the 21 is only upgraded to 8GB as an option as it wont support the full 16. Install it if you will but it wont be capable of using all 16.

2) We wont support it if you do it.

This has confused me no end!

No confusion. There are four memory slots: 4 x 4 GB = 16 GB. Like Nick said, those are also the Apple tech specs. The Apple person may have been referring to how much memory the operating system will utilize. Snow Leopard in 64 Bit mode will support all of it.

What's sort of interesting...if you go to the Apple Store...choose either of the 21.5" iMacs...go to the custom configuration page...it only gives you the option to upgrade the ram to 8 gig (not the max. of 16 gig).

But if you select either of the 27" iMacs...you can upgrade to 16 gig via the Apple Store webpage. Of course it costs and extra $1000 to upgrade to 16 gig...which would basically almost double the price of the low-end 21.5" iMac!!!:(

Just sort of "weird" that there's not an online option to get 16 gig of ram straight from Apple for the 21.5" iMac's.
