Ok so after charging the battery to 100% i took the charger out, i have to drain the battery correct? Is it fine if it goes to sleep while the computer is on during calibration?

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Welcome to Mac Forums.
That's fine.

The steps are:
-charge to 100%
-unplug charger
-run until it powers off and leave off for at least 5hrs
-plug in and charge for a further 2hrs after the battery is fully charged.

You can use the computer during discharging and charging.

but is it ok if it goes to sleep mode? i left the laptop for 10 minutes and it went into sleep mode. Does that disrupt the calibration process?

It's fine to go to sleep.... it only means that it will take longer for the battery to drain.
When I calibrate, I set mine not to sleep in my energy settings in system preferences.
Usually for instance, when calibrating, I would unplug my Mac at around 5.30pm, and by the time I went to bed after heavy evening usage, it would have shut down, and been off long enough for me to plug it in and power up by the time I woke up.
