Hi,

I just installed office 2011 but I made a mistake in my company name and at the moment each time I startup, the wrong name is showed.

How can I change this name? I already uninstalled office and installed back but he keeps using this name.

Greets,

G;day and welcome to the forums.

Did you actually use the Office uninstaller which should be included on the original CD?

No problem (actually, it was tricky figuring out a solution to this but it was fun). Open up Terminal (/Applications/Utilities) and enter the following command:
Code:
defaults write com.microsoft.office "14\UserInfo\UserOrganization" "CHANGE THIS TO WHAT YOU WANT"
So, for instance, if you wanted the organization info to say "Drieske Inc", enter the following:
Code:
defaults write com.microsoft.office "14\UserInfo\UserOrganization" "Drieske Inc"
It's fun poking around in plist files once in a while ;).

Good one Van. :) BTW, have you tried "Pref Setter"? It's a donation ware utility to edit PList files. Very nice for those times when you may not want to use Terminal.

I haven't heard of that only because I have the development tools (Xcode) installed and with it comes aptly named "Property List Editor" which is a graphical tool for editing plist files.

Charlie the thing that puts me off PrefSetter it is listed as Panther compatible and was last updated 28 July 2008! Do you know if there have actually been any updates since then?

Nope, that's the last time it was updated Harry. And I think he's no longer providing support for it either. It still works so I continue to use it, however, it may be better to do as Van does and install the dev tools.

Office 11 Mac info

Hi all,

Good suggestions everyone.

After following MS's directions at <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2394111> with little change, I looked here in the forum.

I installed Developer Tools and took a look at com.microsoft.office.plist with Property List Editor (thanks, Van). It did need 14\UserInfo\UserOrganization "Company Name" added as a string, which I did. That changed the info on the About screen, but opening a template resulted in the incorrect company name being inserted (typo on my part when installing).

With the help of our BLT (Beloved Tech Guy), we opened a new, blank Word doc (should work in any Office doc), opened Word/Preferences/User Information, and THERE was the offending typo in the company name. Corrected it there and filled in other fields as well. Now a template opens properly populated.

I'm guessing this typo thing may happen rather often, so I wanted to offer my $0.02.

:) Thanks for posting that. Sometimes the simple method of doing things escapes us "big thinkers". ;P

Awesome1

This was awesome and was exactly what I was looking for today! I was trying to fix a problem with autofill in outlook when typing in my own name to send myself a bcc...this information fixed my issue without having to go through the PLIST stuff.

THANK YOU!
