Help on cleaning speaker holes MBP

So i've got a pre-unibody 15" pro with some stuff in the speaker holes, the only real way to describe it is almost like play-dough. I had the whole thing apart last week to do my HD upgrade but when I looked on the underside of the holes in hope to clean it out I couldn't see anything due to the black paper like material that lay over it.

If anyone has ever had this problem or has an idea on how to fix it, comments would be greatly appreciated!
