Region Code Problem.

I have just bought a second hand imac (my first mac) from an American friend who has just returned to the States (from the UK). As a result of switching between two different regions i.e. 1 & 2 he has used up his 5 changes of region code. I am new to Mac and cant get in touch with my friend. Can anyone please help?

as far as i know its related to drive itself and not software. one way is to reset the drive at the manufacturer. there are some software utilities for PC, that can hack the drive and unlock the region code, but it depends in the type of drive. some are hack-able, some not. check out this page for more info:

if your drive is in the list, you can use PC to reset it. by fisicaly removing the drive and putting it in PC and back.
you can also buy a new drive (the easiest way)
