I bought a brand new macbook Pro 13" that came with snow leopard 10.6.4, after 2 month of using it i start getting Kernel Panic, i didn´t know what was it so when i took it to apple store they said that the hard drive was corrupted so they change it, a week later i start getting Kernel panic again, they have done test of software and hardware and they found nothing so they said it must be a program that a installed that caused it, is that possible? when i got my computer back i only installed skype and yahoo msn and i end up getting kernel panic too, (can skype or yahoo msn can cause kernel panic?), apple store is not being much help because they said its software so i don't know what else to do.

this is the error i get so i will happy if somebody know what this means:

i have tried all this so far:

1) run the fsck pressing command +option S key
2) i have done option + command + R + P
3) i have run the disc pressing C key and check the softward, sometimes i get nothing and sometimes i get that some volume folder has move but it fixed it.
4) i have run the disk pressing D and sometimes i get nothing and sometimes i get this hardward error 4MEM/9/40000000:0XA9F75D18, apple said that that hardware error was cause because of a softward problems, is it possible?.
5) i have reinstall the Mac OS X software again without deleting the information i have, all the softward its up to date.
6) i have install Onyx and do check the softward all the time.

Another thing is that before they change the hard drive i also have problem with internet, apple store have check my airport card and they said its works fine, that i had that problem because of the driver, but i have notice something that on the internet bar signal some times i get a full signal but but internet runs slow, i told them that and they said that the bar signal shows that you have internet thats all and not the potential of the signal, is it true????

i will appreciate your help guys. thanks in advance.

Yes

...this is the error i get so i will happy if somebody know what this means:

20101023-murkg5bgj1ere1yhwfwiqp9amy.png

That right there indicates it is Yahoo Messenger that is running when the KP occurs.

Since you say you have only installed 2 apps, the troubleshooting method is to quit using both those apps and find out do you get a kernel panic. This includes removing them from your startup menu if they are located there so that don't launch at start up. Then try one at a time to see which one is causing it.

thanks for your reply, i will uninstall both programs and see what happened, i have been saving all the kernel panic reports and some of them came out with this:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Dock

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Safari

i dont remember if those were before or after i updated the software but i will check it out in a future when i get one.

thanks again for your help.

After that and you still get them, it's time to try your RAM, one stick at a time.

does anybody knows what this error code means? 4MEM/9/40000000:0XA9F75D18

hi, i have kernel panic problems on my macbook pro 13¨ os x 10.6.4, and the guys from apple told me that i have it because of a software issue but i keep getting this ramdom hardware error: 4MEM/9/40000000:0XA9F75D18, apple said that this error thats shows only when i do a hardware extended test (sometimes it shows sometimes not) was caused by a software.

i have been told that hadware test has nothing to do with software issues, does anybody knows what this error means 4MEM/9/40000000:0XA9F75D18??

thanks for your help.

As moderator bobtomay already advised you, check your memory modules. That hardware error is a memory error. Remove the modules one at a time to see if that stops the KP. In other words, leave one module in while removing the other; do it for both modules.

Hey i just want to say thanks you guys for your help, finally the guys from apple change my memory RAM and i got zero kernel panic.

i also reinstall all the software again because it sometimes it was freezing sometimes and it didn't let do anything, i suppose it was because of a virus but anyway i erase my hard disk and reinstall the software and its smooth now :)

Just one thing, i have a mackbook Pro 13¨ with snow leopard and i have the original CDS, as i reinstall the software it didn't install Ilife, iphoto, imovie and garage band, where do i find it? because this model comes with it but as an optional but i cant find it on the cd.

i went to optional installation on the cd and have applications like languages, ipod, applications but i don't find the imovie or the others.

do you guys know where is it?

and once again thanks thanks thanks for helping me with kernel problem :)

Don't use Filevault (and least not the one in non-Lion versions of OS X). Just turn it off (deactivate), pretend you never heard of it. Just don't use it at all, period.

Once that's done, "magically" your TM backups will work properly again.

Hmmm ... I wonder if this has anything to do with it??

Very nice!;) The Apple techs/Genius's must be having lots of fun with this.

User takes their computer to the Apple Store due to kernel panics...Apple tech/Genius looks at the kernel panic report...and sees the "Don't Steal Mac OS X 7.0.0"!;)

The "Don't steal Mac OS X" kext is loaded at boot up by default - Snow Leopard is when I first noticed it on my MBP - nothing new there.

When is this occurring?
During installation?
You already had OS X installed and operating properly and this is a new error at boot?

Have you installed new memory?
Have you unplugged all external devices attached to the machine?
The USB Device - Patriot memory has me wondering also.

But, it looks like a graphics issue to me.
And found at least a couple of these reports from the beta versions of Lion.

Where did this copy of Lion come from?
