Lost photos?

I used migration assistant to transfer everything from my MacBook to my new iMac. But I did this not on set up but after a couple of weeks as I didn't have the right cable. Now all data and photos I have stored on the new mac before using the migration assistant have disappeared. Is there any way to get them back?
