Got a question for anyone with a PSP (Playstation Portable). A friend of mine has Windows XP SP2 and he connects his PSP via a USB cable. Everytime he connects it he gets a message that there is a unrecognized device attached. From what I found out, the device does not requre any drivers, it will just show as a removable disk. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the usb controllers. I have other usb devices that I connect that are recognized fine. He also connects it to a friends computer with XP and his recognizes it fine. Kinda stuck here. Any ideas. I know this really isn't mac related but I thought someone could help. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried other devices in that USB port? I have never had any issues using my PSP with XP.

Is it a USB 2 connector? Maybe that's the issue...

The only other problem I could think of ends with XP...

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1, I don't think it is the spec of the USB port, I just think the port might be bad.

Yes, USB 2.0 may work with 1.o but that doesn't mean that devices made for 2.0 work with 1.0. This is an idea worth considering.

May sound silly, but try a different usb port.

If it is truly USB 2.0 Compliant according to the IEEE standards then it should work in a USB 1.1 port.

Don't forget iPod's only work with USB 2.0, not 1.1.

solution

thanks for the replies, I got it to work. He has a Dell GX270 with USB on the front and the back. Well I tried the one USB connection next to the network port and it worked right away. Thought I would share.
