My older iMac's external speakers have a plug larger than the input for the new iMac and can't be connected in. Is anyone aware of an adapter I can use instead of having to buy new speakers?

You didn't provide us with much to go on but if the plug from the old speakers does not match the size you need for your new iMac, try Radio Shack. They sell a large variety of plug adapters. Take the old plug with you when you go and make sure you know what the new size requires.

The output port on your iMac for analog is a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug.
