I uninstalled Norton Anti-virus about a week ago with a program called App Zapper its supposed to not only delete the program but get rid of all the files associated with the program. Well over the past week I have little things popping up which clearly shows that Norton is still lingering around like a fungus. Whenever I install something I get the popup Norton is scanning the program for viruses, when I start my torrent program I get notifications that Norton Firewall is blocking connections, I also get some pop ups about some web pages while I am browsing.

Does anyone have any experience getting rid of Norton for good? I tried a couple of different uninstaller programs and none of them have really worked, I also checked Google and I cant really find anything to help me out, if anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would be extremely grateful....thanks!!

Programs such as App Zapper and the like do not work for complicated applications which place hooks in the OS and scatter files about. Always use an uninstaller that either came with the program or use Google to find out how to properly uninstall it.

Since Norton Anti Virus is a Virus, :) It requires special instructions to remove.

The second link does indeed go to a shopping cart to purchase Norton.

The first link goes to an explanation of how to uninstall using the Norton uninstaller, which is what this thread is explaining doesn't work. (Since it's already technically "uninstalled" it's not there)

On that same page, they provide a link to re-download the Norton uninstaller. This is a .sic file that opens in a text file.

So I'm confused to as to what link the person used that was helpful since it seems I'm in the same boat and neither link appears helpful.

If you double click the.sit file instead of trying to open it, it creates a "Symantec Uninstaller" in the same location as the .sit file.

I would suggest you try the 2nd link again.

Try downloading Suffit Expander to open the .sit file - just the free version on the left - link.

(That is not the link in harryb's post above.)
