i have files on an external lacie FW drive. because i had problems copying one of the files, i wanted to make a backup of the entire drive. then i noticed that just about all files were acting up.
last night i was still working fine from this drive, and now it appears to go to sleep for minutes at a time. perhaps the drive is about to die, but what happens is this: i start a copy and in the middle of the process the operation stops. i thought the computer crashed, but after several restarts i let it sit and after several minutes the copy resumed. this happens now on just about all files. i was able to salvage many, but not all files. i tried a different FW cable, no difference.
does anyone know what's going on here?
