I belong to an organization which has a public website. The website also has a members-only area that requires entering a username and password to access. When I first go to the public website and then click on the link to the members-only area, it brings up a dialog that says: Authentication required and which has blanks to enter the username and password. These blanks are already filled in with a username and password. Unfortunately, these are from last year. The username and password have both been changed for the new membership year. I can get into the members-only area by typing the new username and password over the old entries, but Firefox won't remember them. Next time I log in, it will give me last year's obsolete ones all over again. How to I get it to un-remember them and remember the new ones?

Firefox 3.5 and up

Firefox - Preferences - Security - Saved Passwords - delete the item in question

(Hint: paragraphs make folks more inclined to read posts, not to mention it makes reading them much easier.)

Go into Firefox Preferences > Security > Remember Passwords for Sites (selected) > Exceptions and delete the URL. Then back to the web site, enter password and it should remember the new password for you.

Confound it for some reason bobtomay made my post not have authority so he got in first!

It's not just different versions either. Try explaining the steps to someone on a different platform using the same version. ;)
