Upgrading OS X

Hi,

I have an iMac running 10.5.
My other half has just replaced her old macbook with a newer model.
Accompanying said newer model is an OS 10.6 disc.

Should I technically be able to use this to upgrade the os on my iMac?
If so is it relatively easy to do?

No, you'll not technically, legally or any other way be able to use it on your iMac.
Those discs are system specific.

Snow Leopard is only $25-$29, so grab yourself a copy if you want it.

In other words, it won't work even if you try it. It is not an "upgrade" disc. It will only work with the machine it came with.

This must be the 93,125th response to this question guys?

We need a sign over the shop door saying system discs will work only with the precise model machine they were issued with.

I guess the positive spin on that is it means there are still newbies, and that, in turn, means more Macs, higher market share for Apple, higher profits, stock price, more for R&D, better products, new gadgets, etc.
