Dear friends
I have a strange problem, I get kernel panics nearly every time I boot the machine or restart. Following is the report I get after it boots:

Have you tried running the Apple Hardware Test? Its on the install discs that came with your computer

The KP looks like it might be related to a failed hard drive. Since your memory passed all tests, that should be OK. Also, the fact you're getting the backup and reinstall message, is a further indication the hard drive might be bad.

Yes hard disk drive problems alas. DiskWarrior may save it, but at $99.00 cheaper to purchase a new hard drive. Assume you have all your important files backed up?

panics

thanks for your replies
I rerun the hardware test and it passed the memory and then gave the error:
4SNS/1/40000001:TB1T-0.000
when running the main logic board test. I am out of warranty does that mean the LB has to be replaced?

Run Disk Utility directly from the startup disk and let us know what the results are. Do a verify and repair. Let's see what it says before deciding about other things. Kernel Panics are usually associated with bad hardware. First suspect is always memory but yours checked out OK. Second suspect is the hard drive and that's why we need to check it out. If the hard drive is OK, then we can look to the Logic Board. The logic board error from the AHT is troublesome but let's not jump to conclusions yet.

ASD OS test results

got the logs from ASD, the following is the startup ASD OS, before I press on start test:

Local machine info: Mac OS X version = 10.5.6(9G3553) IP Address:127.0.0.1 ASD version:3S130
==========================================================
==========================================================
ASD Log activity from [10/19/10 12:01:05] to [10/19/10 12:57:51]
==========================================================
[10/19/10 12:01:05] * TESTING STARTED *
[10/19/10 12:01:05] Main Logic Board: Check POST Results (test #1) - Check POST Results
- Check POST Results from last reboot.
[12:01:05] Test Passed
[10/19/10 12:01:05] Video Controller Internal: Gmux switch to EG and Verify (test #41) - Gmux switch to EG and Verify
- test will switch display to EG and Verify
[12:01:35] ERROR -- 28 [Mux switching Failed...Didn't switch error] -- TEST FAILED

[12:01:35] Test Passed
[10/19/10 12:01:35] * 1 TEST(S) FAILED * [Elapsed time = 00:00:30]

what's peculiar, is that :
1. my OSX is 10.6.4 but the ASD OS test is showing 10.5.6.
2. If I run the test "Video Controller Internal: Gmux switch to EG and Verify"
it passes, even if done many times.
3. the panics always happen on boot, not when the system is running.
4. ASD EFI test passed all, and all other ASD OS tests too.
following is the test when done from within shen the system is running:

Local machine info: Mac OS X version = 10.5.6(9G3553) IP Address:127.0.0.1 ASD version:3S130
==========================================================

[13:03:02] Test Passed
[10/19/10 13:03:02] * All selected tests passed [Elapsed time = 00:00:00] *

what does this mean, thanks

The reason the AHT says it's 10.5.6 is because the startup disk you're using to run the tests is a Leopard DVD (10.5.6). You probably did an upgrade later to Snow Leopard.

Did you run the verify and repair of the hard drive as I advised? As I said previously, we need to eliminate that before assuming something else is broken. After you do that, we'll go from there.

the problem is that I can't run the macosx startup, it always stops on the lines I mentioned in the first post:

NVDANV50HAL loaded and registered.
AGC: 2.8.56, HW version=1.7.3, flags:0, features:4
Previous Shutdown Cause:3
DSMOS has arrived

Airport_Brcm43xx: Ethernet address 00:23:6c:82:99:5c
IO80211Controller::dataLinkLayerAttachComplete(): adding AppleEFINVRAM notification

and never completes startup, that's why I am frghtened of doing anything to the hard disk, but all other hard disk scans show OK, AHT, ASD EFI and Techtoolpro

OK. Let's do this:

Remove the hard drive from the machine. After removal, use your startup disk to see if the computer will boot from it without panicking. If no panic, that means the logic board is at least functioning. And it may tell us that the hard drive is at fault.

Removed the hard disk, tried to boot from the install DVD and from a USB but it always stops on the same text of the previous post, does it have anything to do with not having the original 10.5 that came with it?, only have the 10.6, and it only panics and fail the test on startup, but not if the machine is running already

This sounds serious. If you can't boot with the Snow Leopard DVD while the hard drive is removed, that's an indication of a hardware problem. You may have to take your MBP on in to an authorized Apple repair center and have them run diagnostics. I'm beginning to suspect your logic board may be at fault. Let's hope it's not that serious as that could be an expensive repair. You never mentioned whether your MBP was still under warranty?

No it is not under warranty, and I am in Kuwait, there is no authorized service centre here and only in Dubai who is monopolizing the service in all middle east and africa, they told me the logic board would cost around $2100
