I'm looking for the best web host for my small business. Tried searching among the so-called web host reviews, but they are nothing more than veiled marketing sponsored by one of the web hosts. All seem to claim generous bandwidth, low downtime, excellent customer service, and helpful web design tools.

In your opinion, who offers the best bang for the buck? Thanks ahead of time!

I'm by no means an expert on hosting but from experience as a web designer I've seen a lot of people using UK2 without any reported problems. I've also used them myself for a number of years now and everything seems to be fine. I'd like to give you a big informative list of companies to avoid but the only one I've had bad experience with is Easyspace - I don't recommend them at all.

Good luck finding one :)

My advice is to be careful about hosting companies advertising "unlimited" disk space. I host a few of my projects on DV Host, and have been very happy so far, especially given the low price. They specialise in RapidWeaver hosting, which is similar to iWeb, but the service works with Dreamweaver, and any FTP client, just fine as well. When I asked them to recommend me a good Mac FTP client, they recommended Transmit.

I also had a site for a client on site5 for a few years, and have never had any problems there either.

Looking for best web host for an e-commerce website

I am trying to find a good web host for an e-commerce website which is Mac compatible (my former one was NOT - was European) can anybody recommend one? I need a website with a shopping cart function, pay pal and credit card payment option. Now I live in Canada and have no clue how to find the RIGHT web host. Can anybody help?

I'm using Dreamhost (DreamHost) great performance but not the cheapest around with $120 annual cost. What I noticed: On big US holidays (Independance Day, Thanksgiving, ...) they always have a promotion with $20 for the first year. If you can wait for the next one - why not save $100 :)
