A student says her MacBook has Snow Leopard on it. It never finishes loading the OS. When I try to boot to my Snow Leopard CD, it says:
"Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. If you want to restore from a Time Machine backup...." Am I getting this message because of some damage to the hard drive or is because she doesn't really have Snow Leopard on it?

You truly must insure that the computers in question are either a Macbook or a Macbook Pro. If they are actually an iBook or a Powerbook...they don't have an Intel cpu...and thus Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) will not install.

Another possibility is we are talking about a set of "gray" colored OS disks. These are model specific...and will only install on the model of computer that they were shipped with.
