Hey guys,
I am trying to get a new external hard drive and know that I can go with Firewire 400 or 800 on my MBP but I was wondering if someone could tell me if I have an esata port... I am not sure what they look like.
I have the MacBook Pro (not the unibody new one but the older gen). Its the 2.2 Core 2 Duo 15inch...
Let me know if you need more specs to verify which model and if it has esata...

Nope. No ESATA on any Mac model that I'm aware of. But certainly not on your MacBook Pro.

Go with a FW800-equipped external HDD. Chances are you will not saturate the bus anyway.

It's when you throw water all over your external HDD so that it doesn't get too hot... :p

Very simply put, it's when there is more data than the path it travels can handle.

For example, using SATA transfer speed of 3GB/s with a 133MHz system bus speed. The bus speed cannot handle all that is being sent to it so the bus speed becomes 'saturated'.

It's like traffic on the freeway. More cars (data) = slower speeds (saturation) after a certain point. The point of saturation depends on how wide the highway (interface) is.
