Hi,
I have an iMac G4 that will not boot, it starts up, shows the Big Apple, but the progress spinner keeps going forever. I have started in single user mode and have run fsck and find the file system intact. I have tried other things that I found on the Apple support site but still stuck. Unfortunately I don't have the start up or OS disks that came with the unit, also I don't know what version of OSX is installed. I'm guessing my best bet is to reinstall OSX and I want to preserve the applications that are installed. I'm afraid if I re-install the wrong OSX version it may clear everything out.
How can I determine the OSX version install from single user text mode ?
Also where is the best place to find a startup disk, does Apple offer them as a free download ?
Thanks
Steve
