Problems with 1080p/50fps HD footage on imac

I have footage from my Hd camcorder which has been recorded in its highest quality setting of 1080p/50fps. However i have been told that i wont be able to use this quality when playing back on an imac. Is this true? If so, are there any ways to convert the footage to use on the mac whithout losing the original quality?

any help will be much appreciated.

Do you know why whoever told you that thought that was the case?

I need some information to help here:

- What kind of HD camcorder is it? Do you know which codec it uses to record?
- What iMac are you using? (CPU/Screen/OS X version)

New iMacs have a 50hz playback, and all of the new models (probably since around 2006) should be able to playback 1080p footage, screen size allowing, without too much trouble. The only catch might be that the codec your camera uses may have to be converted to something Mac friendly.

the camcorder films in avchd and imac specs are 27' screen, 3.06hz processor, 6gb memory, 1tb hard drive.
