I have an ibook g3 (700mhz 640mb 20Gb.) A few times since i bought it, it would not start after being shut down. But, eventually it would start. Now it has turned off by itself and will not turn on. I have tried starting with just the battery just the adaptor, without keyboard, without trackpad, without memory, without airport. I have tried while squeezing and clamping the left of the trackpad. I have reset the pmu. Everything I could find and it still wont turn on. Nothing at all no fan hard drive anything. When i reset the pmu the light on the adaptor change amber to green then back to amber but does not change when battery is completely charged. Before it shut down i was trying to install os9. Do I have to get a whole new logic board? Or is there something else i can do?

Can you explain further what you mean by "iBook G3 will not turn on"?

- are you saying when you press the power button you get absolutely nothing?
- does the display light up at all?
- do you get the startup chime?
- does the hard drive start to spin up?

Thanks,

- Nick

Ok...thanks for the info...just wanted to be absolutely clear. One more question...are you absolutely sure your power adapter is working properly?

If the power adapter is not working properly...then that would explain everything.

Power adapters can go bad in a number of ways:

- bad or loose connection where it plugs into the laptop
- or either of the two connections to the "power brick" can be bad or loose (short)
- or just burned out from years of use or possibly from a power spike
- it is always possible that the outlet your plugging into is not working either (long shot)

If your 100% sure that your power adapter is good (and the outlet you're plugging into has power)...then it would seem that something is wrong with the laptop itself.:(

This could mean that the battery is charging properly when the computer is plugged in...so the battery charging circuit is working properly...but something is keeping the laptop from starting up.

Was this laptop dropped recently...or any liquids spilled on it?
