Hi all,

I'm a newbie and wanted to see if anyone could help me..

When watching a Netflix movie on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.4 the movie starts to stutter after about 20-30 minutes.

I've got 12Mbps and the latest cable modem from Comcast. Previously, I had the cheaper service of 1.43Mbps which really had problems with stuttering so I upgraded thinking it might disappear but it's a little better. Sometimes I even lose my Internet connection and have to re-start the Mac.

Even the Mac's mouse is affected when stuttering;it's not controllable during the stutter but returns after it'd done. I've tried all those browsers, Firefox, Safari, Chrome but I've experienced the stuttering with all of them.

Just hoping that someone can give me any advice at all.

Sounds very much like you are running out of real RAM and the system is reverting to virtual RAM, ie disk based.

How much free space does your drive have? If the answer is less than 12GB, I've got an answer for you: make more space.

If you have well in excess of 12GB free, then perhaps a defragging would help. Normally Macs don't need this, but in some cases it can be helpful. I prefer the clone-test-erase-cloneback method.

stuttering

I have 21 GB free space on the HD. I'm not sure what defragging is or how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.
