Looking for a way to view movie files on TV without burning

Hi guys, I download lots of vids movies on my imac...Usually I burn them onto DVD's then play in DVD player

Is there a way I can skip the DVD burning process?

Like some sort of wireless unit or box of some sort where I can move the files to like a USB and watch connected to a tv or dvd player or maybe something else?

It is already possible to put movies on a USB stick and plug into a USB compatible TV or a Playstation etc, you just need to Google which formats they need to be in

You don't mention which iMac you have, I'll just assume you have a mini display port.
If you don't have usb on your tv, the obvious solution will be from your mini display port to DVI, VGA, S-Video or HDMI on your TV.
Another solution, is Apple TV. Apple - Apple TV - Rent HD movies and TV shows, stream Netflix, and more
I'm sure there are a few more methods, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Yea' I know I just don't think my TV or DVd is compatible so I was hoping for some kind of BOX that I could then connect to the TV that plays them

I thought about Apple TV but my thinking was Apple TV is controlled through itunes or something?

so you can't just drop any AVI file on it and play it?

Hook THIS into your TV then copy movie to USB then stick USB in the Media Player
Simple simon I just lucky my 42" has already a USB port in it

As tattooedmac pointed out.... that and any similar devices are a good option.
I don't have PS3 or playstation, so I don't know if they handles different video codecs via usb, but a dvd player with usb would.
As with Apple TV, you could always move movies to itunes, converting them to mp4 using handbrake.
Simplest method of coarse is probably something like TM mentioned, if you dont want a cable hookup from your iMac display port to your TV.

I just went to there site and unless you have a US Address you cant register... So Waste of money or not ??

This is true my friend..... No netflix for us
Netflix was the only reason I wanted one.
I was all ready to order Apple TV, even put it in my cart, and then I tried to register to see if it was possible to get Netflix (which I deep down would be too good to be true here in Oz), and no soup for you!

thought as much. The closest we will get for a while is BoxeeTV. And i do quite like this one. It even dl a App for ease of use and syncs all movie/TV/music from your mac too

I cancelled my Austar ....over paying $110 a month for it, and keen on a movie subscription service like Netflix. Hope something gives soon.

You should buy a media player which plays different video files. I have one that plays all kinds of files. I just hook it up to my tv, plug in a usb with all the movies I want to watch and play them straight onto the tv.

buy? pfft!
get windows 7 on bootcamp and go download This media player. plays everything, and does it right.
also, if you are having troubles with music, consider grabbing foobar2000 another free and great music player.

oh, and recent flatscreens support VGA* and HDMI, so if your mac has either, you can just plug in your to your TV, go go super screen!
*VGA only transmits video, not audio unlike HDMI which does both so you would have to use your macs speakers for the volume.

Please answer this question: What kind of TV do you have? Any modern TV will have an HDMI input. You can simply purchase an adapter for your iMac which will hook up to the HDMI cable and can then just hook it right up to your TV. that's one solution.

Another way to go about it is to just download/copy all of your movies over to an external hard drive and plug that directly into the TV as well. I have done and do both. I hacked my LG LG3000 in order to get it to play back Avi/Mpg and MP4 files. Most Samsung sets play them natively.
