Hi,

For the latest macbook pro 15" i7, when i go to system properties it says that it has 2 cores. When I bootcamp into windows, it says it has 4 cores.

Which one is it? Does OS x recognize that with hyperthreading there are really "4" cores or does it list only the physical cores?

Can someone confirm with me that they are getting the same result when they go to system properties?

Thanks!

i7 is actually 4 cores and with hyperthreading it's 8 cores..the i3 (core2duo) is 2 cores..the i5 and i7 are quad core processors, with i7 including the hyperthreading functionality..

It says Intel Core I7 in system preferences?

The mobile i7s are dual core chips. Windows shows the hyperthreading ability as additional cores.

Don't think Intel has been able to reduce the power requirements nor the thermal output on them enough to produce quad core mobile chips as of yet.

The 27" iMac, for 2009 uses the i7 860 and for 2010 using i7 870..

As seen by the Intel pages..these are 4 core processors..I don't believe they are the Mobile variety of the i7, but rather the desktop variety..

I'll have to go home and check to see what my iMac reports for # of cores..

Yep, you get the desktop version in the iMacs.

Am sure we'll see the quads in notebooks sooner or later. Right now though, Intel has only managed to put out 1.6 to 1.8 Ghz mobile quad cores or something like that.

Sandy Bridge may allow the use of quad core low power 2.0 or better chips.
