iPod Touch Various Artists

I have a bunch of albums which feature a bunch of artists, each song of which is featuring some variation of those artists. I have the actual artists' name under artists, and various artists for album artist. I also have it listed as a compilation. On my nano 4G it was fine, it wasn't under artists, and they were stuck under 'V' in cover flow, but on my ipod touch under artists they all the different artist tags show up as they're separate artist and it chucks them all under V. Bit of a pain, and something I've never been able to fix in my year or so of having an ipod touch. Loophole in the iOS software, or is there something I'm doing wrong. (and changing artist to various artists isn't an option, I want to know who sings the song)
