Good thing you did not tell me about that $350 MB. I would have driven you crazy to sell it to me for $350 as I am flat broke but still using my ibook! Oh well!! :D

Nothing wrong with a iBook, I swear till this day iBook had the best battery life of any Mac notebook.

Who's dumber, the person ripping you off, or the person buying from him? If I know something will sell, why wouldn't I ask for a premium???? If you have a problem with it, look elsewhere! Simple as that!

Agreed it's called capitalism.

An iBook 1.33 Ghz G4 (Last model with Bluetooth) takes around 4 hours to convert clients videos from their format to DVD. A 1.66Ghz Intel Mini (Now a 2.16Ghz C2D takes 22 Minutes for the same files with the same applications and settings. That plus You Tube Videos with 10.5.8 installed are jerky and slow. Even with the latest Flash installed it's still not smooth.

It does get great battery life though and if I am careful with things turned way down I can get 5 hours. Sure a new Macbook will get 10 but 5 is better than any PC Notebook I have ever owned. It's just getting old. Tiger might be a bit snappier but it's so behind the times. I need an Intel Notebook.

You need to charge those clients more $$$...so you can work a Macbook into the budget!;)

People seem to be happy to pay these amounts, so you can hardly blame the sellers - eBay is especially bad in this regard, but I do sometimes wonder how genuine those sales are.

I sold a 'Summer 2001' iBook G3, 750mhz with 640MB of RAM and 1 10GB HDD... for $300! OK that was in 2006, but even so, I couldn't believe that's what it went for. It has a rare Wifi card, which was worth about $90, but even so...

$900 for a MacBook from Craig's List is slightly insane though, as is an iPad for $450 (plus shippping I assume).

I just wanted to add one thing, Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. A lot of times if I'm selling something on CL I will usually put the price kind of high, Because I know I'm going to get low balled either way. (Most people on CL are looking for a steal)

But since most people follow this practice, the majority of buyers are like meh either pay way more then I should or go without. So most people just pay the insanely high prices. Only a very smart few haggle for a better deal.

I am terrible at haggling though. I just tell them, "that price is a rip off, you should sell it for a reasonable price then I'll most defiantly buy it". And they are like "no way I want my high price to stand and will sell to someone else". And they always find another bunny who will pay the high price.

I ALWAYS haggle!;) My moto is "never pay retail".

No matter what someone's asking price is...I always haggle. I bought a Powerbook 3400c yesterday for $15 (with power adapter). Yes...a 13 year-old Apple laptop (believe it or not with a WORKING battery)!:) Seller was asking $20...I offered $10...got it for $15.:) And I got the 1998 CD-rom version of Norton Utilities included.

When you haggle...the seller can always say no...or if your offer price is too low...the seller can always counter-offer.

Example:

- Sellers asking price for a 3 year-old Macbook is $600
- I offer $400.
- Seller counter offers with $550
- I counter offer with $450.
- Seller "bellyaches" a bit at my counter offer...I explain if the Macbook has issues (such as a missing power adapter. missing restore disks, missing keys, cosmetic damage, dead or almost dead battery, etc.)...that it's not worth $550.
- Seller counter offers with $525.
- I make a final offer of $475-$500...and we see where the "chips" fall.

Some folks might see the initial $600 asking price...and say "This guys crazy" and move on. I would rather haggle, see where things end up. If we end up in a "good" place...then I buy it. If not...I don't buy it.

I think that the more haggling you do...the easier it is.:)

When it comes to b/s/t on local websites.. I typically say I have "$XXX.XX cash in hand, are you interested"

From what I've noticed, and a prime example of this is, when you offer some one, even $50-$100 less than what they're asking.. If you say you have the "cash in hand," they're more prone to take it, because people generally want the thing gone ASAP.

For example, this guy on Kijiji was selling a Danelectro DC Reissue bass for $275, I offered $200 "cash in hand" and he replied "sold!"

Same thing for my audio interface, he wanted $100, I offered $60 in-hand, and he took it.

some people are hoping for a miracle, but most are just expecting to get what they paid for, and sadly, values go down.

then again, for as many bad deals you find, you can find some amazing ones as well, friend picked up a 24port switch (usually a thousand dollars at least) for 40 bucks, apparently the guy got it for free from his college and didnt want it.

Some people don't know the retail price of the item they are buying. Other people may think that is cheap because they are buying from overseas and in their country, Apple products are more expensive. While other people may want to buy a second hand computer for parts or so. Sales like this usually occur when demand is greater than supply.

There are many reasons for people paying up to 90% of RRP for an item.
